The stat that showed how Karim Bemzema is more important than Cristiano Ronaldo was for Real Madrid
A new stat put into light the importance of Karim Benzema's goals for Real Madrid, and even displayed how the French is more essential than Cristiano Ronaldo was when he played for the Blancos.
After nine years, 292 matches, 311 goals and 15 titles, Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid and joined Juventus, the club where he is still playing for today. It is undeniable he was essential for the Spanish club, but the numbers do not lie and now it turned out that Karim Benzema is more important for the current Real Madrid than CR7 was when he played there.
This revelation, released publicly by the stat man Pedro Martin, took as parameters the first and the second stint of Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid. In the first one, Cristiano Ronaldo was there and Benzema's role was to create space for him to score goals. In the second one, the Portuguese was not there anymore and Benzema became the leader of the attack.
Being CR7 clearly favored by the tactics, he scored 112 of the Real Madrid's 393 goals in the first spell Zidane had. He scored the 28% of the goals. In the second one, Benzema went further: The team found the net 148 times and 44 of them, a 29%, were signed by the French striker.
This stat shows how much weight has been carried on Ronaldo's shoulders between 2016 and 2018, and how much weight is being carried on Benzema's shoulders since 2019. This also highlights how Benzema had to step up and became the new top scorer of the team, having just some little help of the teammates.
