The reason for FC Barcelona's obsession with Memphis Depay

Griezmann has failed in replacing Suárez correctly. The Frenchman is clearly far behind the expectations put on him when he singed with Barcelona. The Catalan side has put their eyes on Memphis Depay after the amazing season the Dutchman has had at Lyon. But, is that the only reason for Barcelona's obsession?

Not completely. Depay fits Barcelona not only because of the great level he has shown over the last season, but mainly because of his character as a all-around forward. Yes, i know: you can say that Luis Suárez was a striker and nothing but a striker. But that's not true: Suárez creates lots of chances for his teammates to score. He made Barcelona better as a team.

That's just what Koeman's team needs right now. Griezmann is better by his side and Messi, although Koeman's critics are preposterous, isn't going through his best season. They need someone to propel them up. Depay did that at Lyon: he wasn't just the top scorer but also the Ligue 1's player with most assists.

With Depay going through the middle of the offense, moving through the rivals defenders and creating paths to be taken by Messi, Ansu Fati or Philipe Coutinho, then Barcelona will be substantially more dangerous. And although conversations over his transfer failed in getting him to sign with Barcelona, the Spanish giant will push for him again in January.
