FIFA to announce Russia's exclusion from the Qatar 2022 World Cup

It should be remembered that in previous days here at Futbolero US it was reported that FIFA together with UEFA had taken the decision to eliminate Russia from international soccer competitions, both at the club and national team level.

The message from the highest governing body of world soccer was that as long as Vladimir Putin's government was exercising its invasion of Ukraine, it was going to be banned from any competition regulated by FIFA or UEFA.

This even resulted in the automatic elimination of Spartak Moscow, the only Russian team playing in the Europa League, with RB Leipzig gaining automatic qualification to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

What does the strong message that Russia sent to CAS to try to reverse its exclusion from the Qatar 2022 World Cup say?

In a statement to CAS, the Russian Federation told the body that the decision to exclude national teams and clubs from FIFA and UEFA tournaments had "no legal basis in deciding on the elimination of Russian teams".

In addition, the message states that the measure "violated the fundamental rights of the RFU as a member of FIFA and UEFA, including the right to participate in competitions".

But these remarks were not the strongest that the Russian Football Federation, as they said that "the decision to withdraw the national team from qualifying for the 2022 World Cup was taken under pressure from direct rivals in the play-offs, which violated the principle of sport and the rules of fair play."

FIFA and UEFA's decision, supported by other federations and even players

The decision to leave Russia out of the FIFA World Cup and its clubs out of official tournaments was supported by the soccer federations of different countries, such as France and the Czech Republic.

The move was also supported by footballer Robert Lewandowsky, who said: "Russian footballers and fans are not responsible for Vladimir Putin's decisions, but you can't pretend nothing is happening.

The Bayern Munich and Poland striker, who was due to travel to Russia for the playoff, was very much in favor of the measure as his soccer federation also supported it.

What does the Russian Football Federation require?

The RFU demanded in its message to CAS to reinstate "all men's and women's national teams of Russia in all types of soccer in the tournaments in which they participated (including the qualifiers for the World Cup in Qatar), as well as compensation for damages if any."

In addition, the Russian body called for "an accelerated procedure to consider the case. If FIFA and UEFA reject such a procedure, a requirement for the introduction of interim measures in the form of suspension of the decisions of FIFA and UEFA, as well as of the competitions in which the Russian teams were supposed to participate, will be submitted."
