Manchester City vs Atletico Madrid UEFA Champions League: Head to Head Record

Throughout all 36 meetings in all competitions that both teams have played over the years, 19 times the Colchoneros have won, 8 times the Citizens have won, and there have been 9 draws.

And in their last 5 meetings, Atletico has won 4 times, while City has only won one of these matches. What is most striking is that these wins for the Colchoneros were by more than 2 goals.

This could fill with optimism the fans of Diego Pablo Simeone's team, who already managed to defeat one of the Manchester clubs, will they be able to beat the other?

Manchester City News

At the pre-match press conference, there was a curious situation as reporters asked Josep Guardiola about Atletico Madrid's style of play.

The question was more along the lines that Guardiola's club's style of play and Simeone's is not, which made the Spanish coach furious, who replied:

"I'm not going to say anything about that stupid debate. Everyone is going to try to win the game. If he does it, it will be the right thing to do and if we do it, it will be the right thing to do. I'm not going to start saying those things for a second."

It is clear, however, that Guardiola will put the City machine to work at a mile a minute because he knows Simeone has a very capable squad.

Atlético Madrid news

When approached in the pre-match press conference on the subject of pressure in the tournament, "Cholo" Simeone replied that everyone has pressure, but that they are responsibilities that come with the job.

However, in that same answer he commented something very interesting about his squad and that of the rival:

"I do not doubt that City has extraordinary players, maybe they have better players than us, but they are two games. City and Bayern may have a better chance, but last season Chelsea came out on top".

With these statements, Simeone makes a nod to his style of play that appeals more to the collective than to the individual genius of his team.
