Liga MX scandal: América CF could have been seriously affected by Monterrey CF

They are not exactly a city derby, but the last years have raised a very intense rivalry between América CF and Monterrey CF. Lots of accusations on referees’ decisions and different kinds of dark maneuvers, as claimed by América, have brought lots of discussions to one of the top football matches in Liga MX.

It is not the first time that América CF suffers controversy playing against last weekend’s rivals: back in January 2019, a discussed red card for Avilés Hurtado, after a contact with Argentina’s national team keeper Agustín Marchesin from Monterrey, nowadays in Porto after leaving Liga MX.

Both teams are used to play for important things: they have won the Concacaf Champions League (also known as ‘Concachampions’) several times in the last decade. Monterrey CF gave an extraordinarily strong resistance to Liverpool FC in the 2019 World Club Cup.
