LeBron James has become a partner in Fenway Sports Group, which means that he is now a co-owner of the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool FC and the American sports outlet NESN. The news, first reported by the Boston Globe, means that James and his business partner Maverick Carter are FSG's first black partners after expanding their investment in the group.

In addition to James' additional interest, Fenway Sports Group also received a $ 750 million investment from RedBird Capital Partners, according to the Globe. FSG can use that conglomerate's investment to acquire other sports franchises, as well as to strengthen Liverpool and the Red Sox.

With NBA rules preventing current players from owning league or WNBA franchises, James has had to diversify his investments. The forward, who, according to Forbes, has earned more than $ 1 billion over the course of his career, entered Liverpool for $ 6.5 million when Fenway Sports Group bought the team for $ 493. In August 2018, they turned down an offer to sell the club for 2.6 billion dollars.

It should be noted that this is not his first contact with football, since the successful basketball player already had a 2% participation in the English club. Everything indicates that, little by little, he begins to plan his future, away from the basketball courts, although surprising everyone with his investments in a sport other than the one he is accustomed to.

The retirement of a great in basketball history is approaching

James will turn 37 later this year, but he was named the NBA All-Star for the seventeenth time this season and has offered no indication that he is considering retiring. However, he has talked about owning an NBA team one day, something the league prohibits active players from doing.
