According to former CEO of Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Spanish giants, Real Madrid is planning a double swoop for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the 2022 summer transfer window. Both players were linked with moves this summer but none materialised. Kylian Mbappe is said to have been a subject of a final £160m bid from Real Madrid but a deal could not be done for the 22-year-old. Erling Haaland was also courted by Chelsea this summer but the London club was reportedly put off by the huge fees required to sign the player.

Will Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland play in the La Liga?

For both players, the possibility of either of them moving to FC Barcelona still holds. Though cash-strapped, the Blaugrana could stand a chance of landing either in 2022 with Kylian Mbappe expected to become a free agent and Erling Haaland's asking price set to drop to £75m. Between Real Madrid and Barcelona, it looks very possible that Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland could be playing in La Liga next season.

Signing either or both of the youngsters will be a major boost for the Spanish league as it would finally have one or two global superstars as its poster boys. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi means that the league is now shorn of big, marketable names. Antoine Griezmann seems to be the only big name left in the La Liga but under Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, he is bound to be conformed to the team ethos rather than raise his personal profile.

Thus, the signing of Kylian Mbappe and/or Erling Haaland will give La Liga management a star figure to build the league around just as they did around Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the past 10 years. It would be more interesting for La Liga too if both players end up on different sides of the Real Madrid - Barcelona rivalry. This would create a chance for La Liga to recreate the Ronaldo - Messi that dominated the league.

How would the Spanish La Liga compare with other Leagues for star players?

If Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland both play in Spain next season, they would realistically become the only global superstars of the league. The La Liga would lag behind the English Premier League that has numerous global superstars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin de Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, and Ngolo Kante to mention a few. They would be at par with the French league that boasts Lionel Messi and Neymar as the only true global superstars of the league. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Serie A is one shorn of any true global superstar.
