Koeman axed Messi? What did the coach said the Argentinian legend to bench him
The attacker was left out the starting XI against Betis for decision of the coach.
Lionel Messi’s future at FC Barcelona is totally uncertain. The Argentinian legend said he wanted to leave the club during the last transfer window but ex-president Josep María Bartomeu didn’t let him out. After his departure, Messi has now the great chance to depart.
The contract of the Argentinian legend with the club lasts until June 2021, when he will be a free agent if things don’t chance. Just half a year away from that date, Messi was left out of the starting XI for the first time be head coach Ronald Koeman. The decision was made exclusively by the Dutch trainer.
Messi has been playing every single game for Barcelona since the start of the season and the decision of Koeman to bench him has to do with the rest that he wanted to give to his captain. During the week, Barcelona defeated Dynamo Kyiv in a match in which Messi didn’t really show his best performance.
After 20 years at the club, the attacker is trying to leave. Manchester City is one of the great contenders to sign him, even though there are others trying to do the same, just as PSG and Newell’s Old Boys former club. For now, this Saturday won’t have Messi on the field for Barcelona’s clash against Betis.
