How bad can one of the most expensive signings in a transfer market go? Well, you could well ask Sebastien Haller. The French-born Ivorian striker was recently transferred from West Ham United to AFC Ajax, but just after arriving to his new home he’s already facing an incredible struggle that nobody could imagine.

After a quite successful start since his arrival to Eredivisie, Haller has scored two goals in his first six games wearing the white and red shirt of Ajax. But now, after the Dutch giants paid over $27 million for him, he has been ruled out from playing in the Europa League. Why? The reason is very simple, but despite that, it’s impossible to understand how happened.

Administrative and legal procedures are usually not a hard task, but still, somebody must complete them. This time they did not. AFC Ajax simply forgot to inscribe Haller on the squad to play the continental competition. They have to face OSC Lille in the first knockout stage being eliminated from UEFA Champions League.

“It is a terrible administrative mistake from our side”, recognized Ajax coach Erik Ten Haag speaking to the club’s website. However, they will send a formal request to UEFA to authorize Haller to be included in the UEFA Europa League clash against their French rivals. The matches will be played in two weeks' time.
