He was a prolific striker who took his goals all around Europe, but his body and his mind reached a breaking point. At 37 years old, he announced this season will probably be his last as a professional. After so many years in the elite of soccer, it seems the journey has finally come to an end.

He told to press he had been thinking about hanging the boots for a while, and for the rest of the season he will be still giving his best. At Ajax, his role is being a back up for when the starters are not available, he knows it and thinks the best for everybody would be to leave that position to some youngster.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has decided to put an end to a long and successful career, and it will happen when his contract expires, in June 2021. He said he feels exhausted after trainings and matches, and yesterday, after being a starter for the first time at the season, played the 90 minutes, something unusual. Ajax beat PEC Zwolle 4-0 and he scored.

Huntelaar made his debut with PSV Eindhoven, and continued his Dutch adventure with De Graafschap, AGOVV Apeldoorn, Heerenveen and Ajax. He moved to Real Madrid and then, Milan came. After not convincing, he spent seven successful years with Schalke 04 before coming back to Ajax. With Netherlands national team he scored 43 goals in 76 matches.
