Despite it was though that the defender was confronted with the Argentinian star, he made an unexpected declaration.

Since Lionel Messi decided that he wanted to leave FC Barcelona it was said that Gerard Piqué wasn't happy with his companions decision and that backed Josep María Bartomeu in the fight. But, despite the talks, the defender made a statement a cleared his position in this situation.

Piqué said that it is inadmissible that Messi is badly treated because he deserves everything as he is the best-ever player. The Spanish player also proposed the new stadium Nou Camp should be named after the Argentinian star, as a recognition of his more than 20 years at the club.

Piqué has recently signed a new contract extension with Barça for the next three years, accepting a salary reduction of 50%. He also said that it is hard to understand why the players should afford the cost of the bad handling of the clubs sports advisers. When his new contract ends, at 2024, the defender will be 37 years old.

Messi and Piqué had played for Barcelona since very young. They both met at La Masía, Barcelona's academy, and were just separated when the Spanish player decided to leave for Manchester United, from where he came back soon. If things don't change for Leo, their careers may end together as well.
