One of the most southern countries in the world is considered seeder to many of the top leagues. Now, former Barcelona and Liverpool Mascherano could see his replacement in Atlanta United.

Atlanta United won the 2018 title in MLS with coach Gerardo Martino, who arrived to the team after leading Argentina to two Copa América Finals in 2015 and 2016, taking over from recently passed Alejandro Sabella after the 2014 World Cup. Martino departed to assume at the Mexican national team, and now, the Five Stripes have another Argentinian in the bench.

Former international Gabriel Heinze was a regular starter for Argentina in 2006 and 2010 World Cups, scoring the winning goal in the debut against Nigeria in the latter one. Now, he has become the new coach for Atlanta United. After signing veteran Lisandro López, he now wants one of the most promising midfielders in Argentina: Santiago Sosa from River Plate.

Sosa could move to Atlanta United for just $6 million, considering River Plate is in a struggling financial situation and the player is just 21 years old. He is a versatile center midfielder who was successfully improvised as a center back. He appeared for Argentina in both the Under 20 South American Championship and World Cup in Poland. He made his debut for River Plate in 2018, having played 18 games.
