Cristiano Ronaldo was the perfect Galactico signing for Real Madrid, scoring goals both on the pitch and off the pitch. Real Madrid paid a whopping £80m in the summer of 2009 for his transfer and they largely made their money back. Especially through the famous CR7 shirt sales of the Portuguese forward.

In the first year of his contract with Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo's shirt was sold over 1 million times in just the city of Madrid alone. This made over €100m in revenues for the Los Blancos. Ronaldo's shirt would go on to sell millions of times as the Portuguese scored goals after goals, sealing 4 UEFA Champions League titles for the club along the way.

All the years Ronaldo spent at the Bernabeu, he was consistently the player whose shirt was sold most. With his exit in 2018, the Los Blancos lost that major source of income but other players stepped up. Quite surprisingly, the player who has the highest number of shirt sales after Cristiano Ronaldo left is Luka Modric. The Croatian, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2018, beats Karim Benzema and Isco to the podium by some distance.

Additionally, the signing of Eden Hazard in 2019 also made many millions for Real Madrid. The Belgian was given the Number 7 shirt worn by Cristiano Ronaldo and vacated by Mariano Diaz. At the unveiling of Hazard, over 50,000 fans were at the Santiago Bernabeu. A number that is second only to Cristiano Ronaldo's 70,000 in 2009.
