Diego Armando Maradona marked an entire era on the soccer world. The Argentinian legend was one of the best players ever, not to say the best, and has admirers all over the world. Napoli is a city where almost everyone loves the soccer player, due to the time he played at the club.
The Italian side decided to pay tribute to Maradona after his death and changed the name of the stadium from San Paolo to Diego Armando Maradona. The motion was presented by the mayor of the city Luigi de Magistris and approved almost with no delay, so the change of name is already effective.
Maradona arrived to Napoli on July 1984, after he left FC Barcelona due to some polemic situation. The Argentinian represented the fight from a poor city against the other Italian ponderous teams and ended as an idol after conquering many titles that the club could never achieve again.
On April 1991, he left and then joined Sevilla FC, Newell’s and Boca Juniors, his last clubs in his professional career. The tribute paid to Maradona in Napoli is reuniting thousands of fans, even on the COVID-19 pandemic, and authorities think that the city will transform into one of the bastions of soccer fans around the world, helping tourism arrival.
