Retired Argentine defender, Fernando Cáceres has opened up on how much he was offered to injure former Barcelona superstar Ronaldinho when the defender was playing for Celta Vigo in Spain.
He was offered €3,000 ($3,540) to injure Ronaldinho in a match between Celta Vigo and Barcelona, though he did not say who offered him the money.
"We were playing Celta-Barça in Vigo. In the first ball that Ronaldinho went to catch, I hit him from behind. I helped him get up and told him that they had offered me 500,000 pesetas (€3,000) to get him off the field," Cáceres confessed in an interview with Idols, via Bitbol
"He answered me: If you catch me. I didn't go to mark him anymore . I was scared. He used to get like that, he was very good, strong and an impressive player. He was going to embarrass me." Caeceres said of Ronaldinho's response and his reaction afterwards.
Ronaldinho played for Barcelona for five years between 2003 to 2008 and was named FIFA World player of the year in 2004 and 2005. He won the 2002 FIFA World Cup with Brazil.
