Yesterday it was the turn of Chelsea to create a Champions League history in their own way by reaching 500 Champions League goals, more than any other English club and today Real Madrid took steps ahead by scoring their 1,000th and 1,001st goals.

Karim Benzema's first goal in the 14th minute in the 2-1 win over Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk created a piece of history. The Frenchman scored his second in the game later on to put Madrid in the driving seat and set them on course for qualification to the next round.

Real Madrid have won the European Trophy or UEFA Champions League a record 13 times including three consecutive titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and are also the only team in the Champions League era to retain their title.

Cristiano Ronaldo who is without a doubt the best player in the Champions League, having won the most titles and scored the most goals in the competition was the player who scored the 800th and 900th goal for Real Madrid.
