Yesterday, with his brace against Udinese, Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed Pele on the list of the top scorers ever, scoring his 758th goal and rising to the third place, that was previously in the Brazilian's possession. Juventus won 4-1 and CR7 got a historic number, with only Josef Bican (805 goals) and Romario (772) ahead.
The thing is, Pele was not very happy with this record set yesterday. Actually, he does not recognize that number, but a not official one that says he scored exactly 1283 goals. That statistic has been dismissed in the past because it is said to count friendlies, charity matches and other games without official recognition.
So on his Instagram account, the Brazilian legend wrote in his bio 'Leading Goal Scorer of All Time (1,283)'. Pele does not accept that he was passed because for him, that stat that says he scored 757 goals is just not true. The other player who refuses to recognize the official count is Romario, who according to himself his number of goals is 1002.
Behind them, Lionel Messi is just one goal behind the 746 scored by Ferenc Puskas, a Real Madrid legend who, for now, is fifth. Outside the two GOAT, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the active top scorer, ninth in the list with 558 goals. Behind him, Robert Lewandowski is 14th, who scored 521 goals and got very close to the top ten.
