As most people know, Maradona grew up in a little town near Buenos Aires, called Villa Fiorito. He spent his childhood there until he broke into Argentinos Juniors’ first team as a teenager. Coming from a humble background, the star is loved for his soccer skills, but also for never having forgotten his roots.
The soccer world cherishes him for that and every single corner of the world has somehow shown tributes for Maradona in these last two weeks. The city council of Lomas de Zamora, the department where Villa Fiorito is, went a step beyond and decided to do something else in the house where he lived and for the town itself.
So, his old house, now uninhabited, will become Maradona’s museum. It will also be considered cultural heritage. Also, the street where this house is located will be named after him. Azamor 523 was the old address of the house, now it will be Diego Armando Maradona 523.
Maradona lived there with his parents and his seven siblings. After his death, a crowd gathered, brought candles and left signs, Argentinian flags and even shirts. That house will be considered a museum, but it is actually more than that. It is a sanctuary made to worship soccer’s God.
