The historic Real Madrid scorer Hugo Sánchez admitted that the Cruz Azul board of directors had approached him to take over the team, so the former scorer did not deny the possibility of returning to the pitch, after the resignation of Robert Dante Siboldi a few days ago. Hugo Sánchez was the first two-time champion coach with Pumas UNAM in short tournaments, giving them the fourth and fifth stars, against Chivas de Guadalajara and Rayados de Monterrey.

Los Tuzos del Pachuca were the last team that Hugo Sanchez managed in the Mexican soccer, in the year 2012. Hugo Sanchez acknowledged that there are some other candidates such as the Argentine Matias Almeyda, who would have to withdraw from the San José Earthquakes if is elected. In the talks between Hugo Sanchez´s agent and Club Cruz Azul, it was made clear that the doors are wide open in case they decided to start a new stage with Hugo Sanchez on the fields.

For club Cruz Azul, thinking of Hugo Sanchez or Matias Almeyda draws a lot of attention, since both coaches are good at raising the spirits and motivation of the players after the elimination against Pumas UNAM with that historic 4-0 in the semifinal back of the Apertura 2020. In the case of Mohamed, the budget was a factor against to be able to generate a negotiation, for which it was left as a third option.

Another coach that interested the board of directors of Cruz Azul, was Ignacio Ambriz, who is the actual champion of the Apertura 2020 with Club León, but he is expected to renew with the club before the year comes to an end.
