Barcelona is enjoying good form after having won last six games in a row, but they are still suffering a tough season. The atmosphere inside the club is visibly bad, Luis Suárez was let go by coach Ronald Koeman, and later, Lionel Messi did not let the city sleep for a week in mid of the rumors of his departure.
Soon, Toni Freixa, Victor Font and former president Joan Laporta, will contend in the upcoming elections at the club. After Josep María Bartomeu resigned following the scandal with Messi, Carles Tusquets became the interim president. Of course, all three candidates have shown their cards and have their plans. Of course, all of them want Messi to stay.
Some candidates rely on a sporting director, a known face in the club that might lead the decisions regarding transfers, arrivals, and departures. Of course, whoever has a good relationship with Messi, will help to keep the Argentinian master in the club. And Netherlands, a country that gave great legends to Barcelona, could matter in this.
As reported by Dutch newspaper Telegraaf, Marc Overmars, who played for Barcelona from 2000 to 2004, would be looking for new challenges as sporting director. Apart from Arsenal, where he played before, his target would be Barcelona. Font has confirmed he would appoint Jordi Cruyff for that role, so Overmars would arrive with Freixa or Laporta.
