Many players throughout history were compared to great players and that is what happened to Javier Cortes. The young midfielder had his best appearance in the Mexican national team when he was champion of the 2012 London Olympics. From there he was nicknamed the new Hugo Sanchez and his football career was never the same.

It is a bit exaggerated to compare Javier Cortes with Hugo Sanchez but many Mexican media at the time called him that way. Cortes himself in an interview had said that he liked to be called that way. Javier Cortes never managed to surpass that great performance that he had in the Olympic Games and little by little his career faded. Cortes never got to play in Europe and his entire career stayed in Liga MX.

Today the life of Javier Cortes is very different from that of several years ago. His last team was Atletico San Luis and from there he never found a place to play soccer. Today the life of Javier Cortes, the new Hugo Sanchez, is outside the football stadiums but he is still linked to sport. Cortes is the sales leader of a team looking for investors to bet on sporting events and other things related to that.

Although he is still looking for a team to play and give a better end to his career as a soccer player, Javier Cortes seems to have found another passion in the world of finance and sales. In his social networks, he can be seen very concentrated and committed to his new job

The importance of Javier Cortes for the gold of Mexico in the 2012 London Olympics:

Javier Cortes was one of the most important players for Mexico's achievement at the 2012 London Olympics. In the semifinals against Japan, he was the one who scored one of Mexico's 3 goals and won the player of the match award. Cortes will always be remembered for that moment and for trying to be as Hugo Sanchez.
