Diego Maradona was a person who had no middle ground, either loved you or hated you. That happened to Diego Maradona with people born in the United States since the former FC Barcelona player was a person very close to Fidel Castro and to Cuban thoughts. There were only two athletes that Diego Maradona idolized and was able to spread his hatred for the United States.

One of Diego Maradona's dreams was to meet Michael Jordan, but it never happened publicly. While some reports indicate that Diego Maradona and Michael Jordan got together in a bar when Maradona was in Boston, there was never a photograph to indicate or demonstrate that meeting.

Just Michael Jordan was one of the American athletes that he most admired and every time he had the chance, he spoke highly of him. The former Chicago Bulls basketball player sent a very heartfelt message the day Diego Maradona died. The respect for two of the most important athletes in history was mutual.

The other American athlete who had the pleasure of being idolized by Diego Maradona and spoke highly of him was Tiger Woods. For Diego Maradona, both Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan were two of the best athletes in history, but the only thing against them was being Americans, although Maradona himself said that it was not their fault.
