
In 2003, Diego Maradona got the pleasure of seeing how his first club, Argentinos Juniors, opened its new stadium and named it after him. Last month, some days after his passing, Napoli, the club where he became a legend of, did the same. And now it was the turn of another stadium, in the same city where he last managed.
In the city of La Plata, in Argentina, the Estadio Único (Unique Stadium) now has his name, announced by the local governor. Also, one of the stands will take the name of Alejandro Sabella, the manager that took Argentina to the World Cup final in 2014 and is considered by Lionel Messi as the best coach he had in the national team.
This stadium has the capacity to host 53,000 people.and many artist had concerts here, like Guns N' Roses, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran, among others. Also many matches of Copa America 2011 were played there.
Until some years ago, the stadium was shared by Gimnasia La Plata (Maradona's last team) and Estudiantes.de La Plata. But Gimnasia got a permission to using its own stadium again, and some time later Estudiantes had inaugurated its own last year. Currently, the stadium has no use.
