The Serie A Fiorentina striker paved the way for goals from Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi, who finished off Venezuela.

Argentina's national soccer team thus secured second place in the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers, behind Brazil, and a ticket to the World Cup.

Who is Nicolás González?

Nicolás Iván González is an Argentine soccer player, who plays as a striker for ACF Fiorentina in Italy's Serie A and has been a full international with the Argentine national team since 2019.

And this afternoon he gave a great game and opened the scoreboard so that later, Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi could seal the match and defeat the Venezuelan national soccer team with a score of 3-0.

The 23-year-old forward was born in Belén de Escobar on April 6, 1998, and started playing soccer at the age of 5 in Club Sportivo Escobar, but also played for Club Atlético Belén of Escobar.

And later he would make all the lower categories in Argentinos Juniors, arriving at the set of La Paternal with only 10 years, but in which he finished developing to serve there from 2015 to 2018.

In that period, Gonzalez would play 47 matches and score 11 goals to attract the attention of the Argentine First Division, but above all, of international soccer teams looking for young talents in that tournament.

Therefore, in 2018 he would emigrate to VfB Stuttgart of Germany, wherein 17 matches he would score 11 goals to his personal account, thus attracting the attention of an Italian team.

ACF Fiorentina saw in him the striker they needed and signed him, and since 2021 he has been with that club, in which he has participated in 29 matches, in which his scoring streak decreased, scoring only 3 goals.

However, Lionel Scaloni saw potential in him and called him up for the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers. And this afternoon he proved that he is made for the Albiceleste squad, having opened the scoring against Venezuela.

What was Nicolás González's goal against Venezuela like?

The play was generated from the Argentine goal area when a forward run was well exploited through a series of precise passes.

At one point, the ball arrived at the feet of Rodrigo de Paul, who was on the left side in front of the goal, and who barely advanced towards the opponent's area.

As he did so, he waited for Gonzalez to appear on the other side to close the gap, and with De Paul's pass filtered through, Gonzalez finished to make the score 1-0.

Later on, Messi and Di María would close the game, but it all started with González's goal.
