This Thursday the draw for the Copa América 2024 took place. Stars such as the Argentine Javier Zanetti, the Brazilian Ronaldinho and the Uruguayan Diego Godín were part of a gala that ended in disaster. The National Teams, which is part of the 16 teams that will compete in the oldest national team tournament in the world, met its rivals and its group. But for several minutes there were more doubts than certainties due to the organization's blunder.
From the beginning of the draw, they explained that no more than three Conmebol teams could be in the same group, nor could there be more than two Concacaf teams in the same area.
However, the people who were conducting the draw would not have been clear about that draw rule and made a serious mistake that left all the spectators confused. When they drew Colombia's last rival, who already knew they had to play against Brazil and Paraguay in group D, Concacaf 6 came out (winner of the match between Costa Rica vs. Honduras).
But the organizers decided that it could not remain in the zone because in another group there were more than three Conmebol teams and they decided to place it in B with Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela. The strange thing is that the transmission graph did not take into account this last-minute change and the presenter read the groups as they were, generating confusion.
The incredible thing was when Conmebol published the official tweet and placed Jamaica in the group of the Colombia, Brazil and Paraguay National Team and a few seconds later deleted it because, apparently, it had looked bad. In the end, Conmebol republished and rectified its serious error and confirmed that group D was made up of Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay and the Concacaf 6 playoff (winner of Costa Rica and Honduras).
