It has been 12 years and seven months since the Mexican national team's last victory over the United States at the Azteca Stadium. In that time, they have faced each other three times at the Coloso de Santa Ursula, with two draws and one victory in a friendly match for the Stars and Stripes. In those matches, El Tri used 29 different players on the field.

USMNT vs Mexican National Team: who were the top scorers in this derby?

Mexico's last victory over the United States was on August 12, 2009, in the World Cup qualifiers for South Africa 2010, a match in which El Tri reversed the score with goals by Israel Castro and Miguel Sabah after the visitors had scored the first through Charlie Davies. From that victory, Guillermo Ochoa and Andrés Guardado remain in the Aztec squad.

How many games have been played since that time?

Mexico and the United States have met three times at the Azteca Stadium since that match. The first time was in a friendly match in 2012 with a favorable result for the Stars and Stripes with a solitary goal by Michael Orozco.

The other two came in qualifying matches. In the run-up to the Brazil 2014 World Cup, they played to a goalless draw, while in the run-up to Russia 2018, they split the points again, but with a 1-1 scoreline with goals from Michael Bradley and Carlos Vela.

In these three matches, the Mexican National Team has used 29 different players to beat the United States again at the Azteca Stadium. However, they failed to get a favorable result for El Tri at home.

Which players were in those matches?

Guillermo Ochoa, Héctor Moreno, and Javier Hernández are the only players who have been on the pitch at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula during the three matches following the 2009 victory.

Seven players have participated in two of the three: Jorge Torres Nilo, Diego Reyes, Severo Meza, Jesús Zavala, Ángel Reyna, Andrés Guardado and Javier Aquino.

The remaining 19 players were only on the field at the Azteca Stadium on one occasion: Francisco Rodríguez, Manuel Viniegra, Pablo Barrera, Enrique Pérez, Gerardo Lugo, Aldo De Nigris, Elías Hernández, Giovani dos Santos, Carlos Salcido, Omar Bravo, Oswaldo Alanís, Carlos Salcedo, Héctor Herrera, Marco Fabián, Jonathan dos Santos, Hirving Lozano, Carlos Vela, Jesús Gallardo and Orbelín Pineda.
