Concacaf Standings: Can Costa Rica take away the automatic ticket to Qatar from the USMNT or Mexico?

Last Sunday, a new date of the Octagonal was played and the four CONCACAF qualifiers were confirmed. Canada has already secured its place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and Mexico, the United States and Costa Rica already have at least their place in the repechage.

The final round of the Octagonal stage is reaching its last day and the leader Canada, after losing its undefeated record, won with authority at home against Jamaica. Costa Rica secured its place in the playoffs with a 1-2 win over El Salvador, which are already eliminated.

The United States, which played to a goalless draw against El Tri at the Azteca Stadium in midweek, are in second place and hosted Panama, a team they overcame without any problem, leaving the Canaleros with no chance when combined with the Ticos' victory.

The Mexican national team visited Honduras and, with the narrow win, are one point away from securing their place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Although mathematics allows it, Costa Rica's situation to qualify among the first three places in the CONCACAF qualifying round is very complicated; it needs to beat the United States by a difference of six goals, or beat the United States by more than three goals and for Mexico to lose against El Salvador, a possibility that seems distant since the Aztecs will host the Salvadorans at the Azteca Stadium.
