Sheriff vs Shakhtar: the Moldovan underdog stuns the Ukrainian giant in the Champions League

UEFA Champions League debutants Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova played the first ever Champions League match of their history. They hosted Ukrainian power house Shakhtar Donetsk and won the match with a 2-0 score.

 

The club which made history as the first club from Moldova to make it to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League after beating Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in their last qualifying games have now beaten another top European club.

 

The player who made history to score their first ever Champions League goal is Adama Traore who opened the scoring in the 16th minute and was assisted by Cristiano, who also assisted the second goal for Momo Yansane in the 62th of the game.

 

 

They are now top of group D, a group that also have 13 times winner of the Champions League Real Madrid and Italian champions Inter Milan, both of who will play each other later tonight.
