Messi faces Venezuela in the World Cup qualifiers

Messi will arrive with some time off, but after the eliminatory matches with the Argentine National Team on September 2 in Venezuela, September 5 in Brazil and September 9 with Bolivia in our country.

After the controversy that was generated for this triple date of South American qualifiers for Qatar 2022, the entire national team is already in Caracas. Despite the refusal of the Premier League and LaLiga to release the players, the CAS gave the OK to FIFA's request and the players were able to travel to represent their countries. Thus, Lionel Scaloni already has almost all the players called up for the matches against Venezuela, Brazil and Bolivia. In the early hours of today, PSG representatives Lionel Messi, Leandro Paredes and Angel Di María arrived in the Venezuelan capital.

Argentina and Messi train in Venezuela

The Argentine national team formally started this Monday afternoon its preparation for next Thursday's match against Venezuela, for the ninth date of the South American qualifiers, to be played in Caracas, with a massive training session that lacked the captain Lionel Messi and was left out in the rain, under which 27 members trained at the Deportivo La Guaira club complex.

Messi arrived along with his Paris Saint Germain (PSG) teammates, Leandro Paredes and Angel Di María, in their own plane and were left at the disposal of coach Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the team that won the Copa América in Brazil on July 10.

Scaloni has the 30 called-up players for this triple date of the qualifying rounds, which will continue on Sunday against Brazil, in Sao Paulo, no less. That match is pending from the sixth date that should have been played in March and that CONMEBOL moved to this September window, provoking the anger of the European leagues, which moved to deny the assignment to the South American countries arguing sanitary reasons due to the coronavirus pandemic, although the real reasons pointed to scheduling problems.

But the timely intervention of the CAS, to which Spain's LaLiga appealed, denying its request not to release players despite the obligatory nature of the FIFA date, ended up disarming the same position that had been initiated by the Premier League and later joined by the Italian and Portuguese Federations.
