USMNT Injuries

Weston McKennie

The Italian Serie A Juventus midfielder will not be able to play in the match against the Mexican national team because he suffered an injury in the match between his club and Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. 

According to the medical report that the club shared after having performed the pertinent examinations, it was announced that the Little Elm, Texas-born player had suffered a fracture of the second and third metatarsal.

This means that the player will not only miss the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying but will also be out of action for a few more months while he recovers from this injury. 

Sergiño Dest

The F. C. Barcelona defender will also miss the match against Mexico due to an injury in the biceps femoris of his left thigh.

Unfortunately for Dest, this will be the second time he misses the World Cup Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022. 

The same thing happened last November when he was unavailable for the matches against Mexico and Jamaica due to lower back pain. This means that of the 11 qualifying matches the USMNT has played, Dest has missed three games. 

Therefore, his place in the World Cup Qualifiers will be taken by George Bello, a player from Arminia Bielefeld of the Bundesliga, which establishes him as one of the new alternatives to Berhalter. 

Matt Turner

Just when everything seemed to indicate that this was Turner's moment and that this World Cup Qualifier would be his crowning moment with the USMNT, injuries prevented him from doing so. 

New England Revolution head coach Bruce Arena announced that goalkeeper Matt Turner is expected to be out for a couple more weeks with a foot injury.

Unfortunately, Turner will miss this opportunity, which would have been perfect to celebrate his transfer to Premier League side Arsenal, which has now been finalized and for which he will leave Major League Soccer. 

Brenden Aaronson is in doubt

While Aaronson is in the USMNT's squad to face the Mexican national team, alarm bells went off today for Gregg Berhalter. 

Aaronson was ruled out of the Red Bull Salzburg squad just moments before kickoff against Wolfsberg. So far, the club has not provided any information on the matter. 

However, it is feared that his absence is due to injury and that he will not be able to play in the match against El Tri, which will take place on March 24 at the Estadio Azteca.
