Lyon doesn’t want to part ways with this player, but Chelsea wants him back no matter what
The left-back arrived to Lyon on a 1-year loan out of Chelsea.
Chelsea started the 2021-22 season with Ben Chilwell and Reece James as their starting backfield, but after both got injured and with the tight schedule ahead of them for the second leg of the season, they’re trying to add a new player that could help them cover the left side of the pitch.
He’s already a Chelsea player, but he wasn´t part of Tuchel’s plans at the start of the season, as at least three players were ahead of him on the roster, including the two injured ones and Marcos Alonso, but the 31-year-old Spanish left-back might need help as he’s the lone player at his position.
Olympique Lyonnais added him on a 1-year loan out of Chelsea at the start of the current season, and now that his former team wants him back, Lyon might have to push hard to keep the Italian international until his loan expires. Chelsea already approached the French side, but they refused to let him go, meaning the Blues will have to pay a big sum if they want Emerson back this transfer window.
Not Tuchel's first option, as he's still looking to add this Barcelona player
Sergiño Dest is still the priority for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel, but with the ongoing negotiations with Barcelona and his agent, the Stamford Bridge team is pondering other options in case they can’t acquire the American international. They were also interested in adding Lucas Digne, but Everton wasn’t interested in loaning the player.
