Liverpool is set to win the race against Chelsea for this defender
The Reds are willing to pull a similar move Chelsea did when they acquired Timo Werner.
Last summer, Chelsea negotiated with Sevilla FC to acquire Jules Koundé on a permanent move. Both teams were close to finishing the deal, but on the last minute, Sevilla decided that Koundé wouldn’t leave the club unless someone paid his exclusion clause.
Thomas Tuchel is fond of the 23-year-old center back and has been pursuing his signing as he’d be a great addition to Chelsea’s defense. But during this transfer window, a new team is set to acquire the player before the Blues finish the negotiations.
Liverpool is planning to pay the $90 million clause to acquire the French international economic rights and beat Chelsea on a similar move the Blues played when they singed Timo Werner before Liverpool closed the deal.
Who is Koundé and why big European teams are fighting for him?
Jules Koundé is called to be the next Fabio Cannavaro, as he’s only 5’10’’ but his playing style is fierceful, something that reminds of the ex-Italian international captain. With only 23 years, Koundé will make a great addition on the long-term to any team that’s willing to pay for him.
