Just one day after Liverpool couldn’t complete the feat and finished the 2021-22 Premier League season standing second, just one point behind Manchester City, who became back-to-back champions given their victory over Aston Villa, the Reds already announced a new acquisition.

During Monday morning, Liverpool officially announced on their social media the addition of Portuguese winger Fabio Carvalho, who will be part of the Reds starting from July 1st after having a breakout season with Fulham FC, newly promoted to Premier League.

The 19-year-old played 36 games in the Championship with Fulham, scoring 10 goals, and assisting eight times, a major contribution for a player that had his first full season as part of the senior team, as before this year, he had only played six games.

With his addition, Jürgen Klopp showed that he’s already planning for the future, as he’s trying to build a younger squad that can help Liverpool keep fighting for the top spots of Premier League and succeeding in Europe, just a week before the final against Real Madrid.

Carvalho joins a crowded offense

The addition of Fabio Carvalho suggests that Klopp is planning on parting ways with at least one of the main Liverpool players over the next couple of transfer windows, as for now, he’ll have to split the work with players like Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz.

Although not all of them play the same position, the versatility of Carvalho will make him split time with them, until Klopp decides to give him the starting role, especially now that the usual starters are all over 30 and the German coach wants to lower the age of the squad.

His arrival, added to the promotion of Harvey Elliot last season and the departure of Divock Origi and probably Takumi Minamino, open the way to the arrival of younger players, as the plan for the next couple of seasons is to leave Jota and Díaz as the most experienced players.

Which other players can join Liverpool?

According to reports from Liverpool Echo, the Reds are looking to add another Portuguese to the offense, as they are after offensive midfielder Fabio Vieira from FC Porto, as well as striker Adam Hložek from AC Sparta Prague.
