Liverpool FC arrived at Sunday with only one objective in mind: beating Wolverhampton Wanderers to have a chance of winning Premier League for the first time since the 2019-20 season. But they also needed that Manchester City didn’t win their last game of the season.

Unfortunately for them, even if they won 3-1 against Wolves after being down on the score sheet after only three minutes of the game, the Citizens were able to comeback from behind and needed just 10 minutes to beat 3-2 Aston Villa and win their second straight Premier League title.

After trailing by 14 points in mid-January, the Reds were able to push the decision to the last game of the year, as they were looking to lift their third trophy of the season after winning both Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

They will now focus on Champions League, where they will try to take revenge on Real Madrid, who beat the Reds five seasons ago, but also with the idea in mind of improving the roster for next season, as they know that they need to add competition if they want to keep playing at the same level.

Luis Díaz will be the player that will face more competition

Although Luis Díaz just arrive at Liverpool and Premier League over the winter transfer window out of Primeira Liga side FC Porto, he will be the player that faces most competition, not only because Sadio Mané still has one more year of contract, but also because Jürgen Klopp is already looking to add another striker to the mix.

According to reports from news outlet Liverpool Echo, the Reds are pursuing the addition of Díaz’s successor in Porto after he left only four months ago and given the good relationship that exists between both clubs, they are the favorite team to acquire Fabio Vieira.

Although Vieira plays as an offensive midfielder or second striker, different position than Díaz, the 21-year-old Portuguese has assumed the role that Díaz left, as he’s become the top scorer in the past months for Porto.

How much can Liverpool pay for him?

According to Transfermarkt, his market value is currently set at $18.7 million, less than half from what they paid for the Colombian international in January, becoming a bargain deal for the Reds if they decide to pursue his addition, not only to reunite him with Luis Díaz, but also with Fabio Carvalho, who will join Liverpool over the summer.
