Mendy has been the keeper of Chelsea's goal for the past two seasons, leading them to become European and world champions, as well as a real contender in the Premier League. However, the story of the Senegalese goalkeeper is unique.

Edouard Mendy's story

Going back in time, the Édouard Mendy of 2015 could hardly have imagined himself lifting a Champions League title or the first African Cup of Nations title with Senegal.

Edouard Mendy's career began at the age of 10 when he dazzled in his neighborhood team, where he stood out as a discreet boy with a great attitude and a lot of motivation.

Later, at the age of 19, he signed with Cherbourg in France's third division, where his qualities began to stand out until the club was relegated. Mendy decided to step aside and wait for an offer that would convince him, as several Ligue 1 clubs had promised to look for him.

No offer came in and Édouard Mendy's dream now looked very distant. In 2014, he returned to Le Havre to play with the youth team, hoping to soon get the opportunity he had been looking for.

Mendy was frustrated

Months went by and no one was looking for Mendy. That's why advised by his family, he decided to look for a job and if he found something, he would leave soccer forever.

Then came the call from Olympique de Marseille, who offered him a trial, and so the Senegalese became the team's third goalkeeper, playing only eight games.

This is how Édouard Mendy made his breakthrough. A year later, Reims in France's second division brought him into their ranks to sign his first professional contract. Within a year he became a starter and managed to lead the team to Ligue 1.

In 2019, he was signed by Rennes, and his high level took him to Chelsea. In 2020, the London outfit paid more than 24 million euros for him and the rest is history.

Édouard Mendy's life changed. It crossed his mind to leave everything and start all over again, but he never stopped believing and today, he is part of a historic generation of goalkeepers, looking to continue adding titles and awards to his personal account.
