According to Daily Mail, the Blues squad are in contact with Olympique Lyon to break the loan of Emerson Palmieri. The club's intention is to offer them financial compensation to end the contract he had until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old joined Chelsea from Roma in 2018 and was an unused substitute in their 2021 Champions League final victory. The Italy international joined Lyon a month after starting Italy's triumphant Euro 2020 final against England at Wembley.

Chelsea is looking for Ben Chilwell’s replacement

Chelsea will not be able to count on Ben Chilwell for the rest of the season due to injury. This has left the left-back position, now occupied by Marcos Alonso, without a replacement, so the board is considering bringing in a player and Emerson is one of their options.

As for Lyon, they will not agree to part with Emerson until they find a replacement. For the moment, the name that has come up is that of Paris Saint-Germain winger Layvin Kurzawa, who has reportedly been offered to the French club.

Chelsea’s board have also managed other options

Following Ben Chilwell's injury, manager Thomas Tuchel had considered Everton's Lucas Digne but did not want to bloat his squad with another permanent signing.

Digne is now closer to joining Aston Villa with West Ham believing a deal is too expensive for them. Newcastle remain in the wings if Villa fail to finalize terms on the £25million deal.

Tuchel also wants a right-back after Reece James' injury

Tuchel is also looking for a right wing-back following the injury to Reece James and has the option of recalling Dujon Sterling from his loan at Blackpool by the end of this week.

However, they are continuing to consider other options with the likes of Sergino Dest at Barcelona and Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen among names discussed.

Chelsea begin a run of four games in 11 days

Next game for Tuchel’s men is against Spurs for the second leg semi-final. The current Champions League holders won 2-0 in the first leg, with goals from German player Kai Havertz and an own goal from Ben Davies.

Tuchel appeared at the press conference and said that although they won the first leg by a two goal lead, they did not have secured its place in the EFL Cup final. "We play another difficult game, it's a complicated stadium, against a very good team and against a great coach. So we need to be ready. We have the same guys we had in the cup game," Tuchel added.
