Diogo Jota leads Liverpool against Leicester City

One month and ten days later, Arsenal got their first win of 2022. It was not easy, as Mikel Arteta's men played 20 minutes with one less player, but a goal by Gabriel Magalhaes was enough to send the three points to London, against Wolverhampton (0-1).

Martinelli ejected in a matter of a 30-second play

The center-back scored the only goal of the night, the first since New Year's Day for Arsenal, and decided a game in which the London side came close to getting into trouble when the referee sent Martinelli off for a double yellow on the same play.

The Brazilian, rushed by a previous foul, pushed a player on a throw-in and when he ran to cut the counterattack that was formed by that throw-in, he fouled the player. The referee gave him two yellow cards, one for the push on the touchline and the other for the tackle.

For twenty minutes Arsenal had to hold on, having earlier taken the lead after a play involving several bounces in the box in which Ben White won the ball over the top, Lacazette got in front of Sa, committing a possible foul, and touched just enough for Gabriel Magalhaes, unchallenged, to score into an empty net.

Ramsdale made key saves to help Arsenal win

Wolves tried to make their numerical advantage count and Ramsdale had to make a fingertip save to deny Romain Saiss a goal as the home side piled on the pressure in the closing stages

The Gunners ended 450 minutes without a goal and won the match, breaking a five-game winless streak between the Premier League and FA Cup, where they were eliminated by Nottingham Forest.

This victory, together with the draws of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur this round, allows Mikel Arteta's team to move up to the fifth place, with 39 points, just one point behind fourth-place held by West Ham United, who, however, have two games more than Arsenal.

In turn, the Gunners have one game more than Tottenham and two less than Manchester United. Wolves, who also aspire to Europe, have lost ground and remain eighth with 34 points.
