Liverpool looked to be set to continue their hot form in the Premier League, but another bump in the road happened this past weekend. Arsenal defeated Liverpool 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium, and now the Reds have two teams within touching distance in the table. Arsenal and Manchester City are both two points behind Liverpool, and Man City has a game in hand.

On the other side, Liverpool is close to recovering most of the first-team players in the squad. Liverpool has played four games in January without key players like Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, and Andy Robertson. Most of these players have recovered from injuries, while others are coming back from international duty. Trent and Andy Robertson came back in the FA Cup 5-2 win against Norwich last week. Thiago has not played since April 2023 before he returned to the pitch in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

Mohamed Salah and Egypt were eliminated early in the AFCON Cup, but the Egyptian winger got injured. Salah was injured in a game against Ghana and was hoping to recover in time for an AFCON semifinal. Although Egypt didn't advance to the semifinals, Salah was expected to be fit by then. The AFCON semifinals are tomorrow, which could mean Salah could be back very soon for Liverpool. Wataru Endo was also a key player for Liverpool before he left for the Asian Cup with Japan. Japan has been eliminated from the tournament after Japan lost 2-1 against Iran last Saturday. Endo is also expected to be back for Liverpool as soon as this weekend. With the squad getting bigger, Liverpool receives bad news after a player suffers another injury.

Dominik Szoboszlai suffers another setback and could be out for a month

After suffering an injury a few weeks back, Dominik Szoboszlai suffers yet another injury. The Hungarian came back after suffering an injury in the Newcastle United game on the first day of 2024. He came back against Norwich City in the FA Cup, but he didn't feature in the squad against Arsenal. Hungarian media reported that Szoboszlai would be out for 3-4 weeks with an injury. He's expected to miss around 7/8 games in total for Liverpool. Other sources suggest he will not be out for that long but will be careful with his recovery. Klopp will confirm this in his press conference on Friday.
