Lionel Messi may not be coaching after he retires from football, but instead, he could be like David Beckham and become a co-owner of a football club. Messi arrived at Inter Miami last summer and earned a salary nowhere near the salary he expected to earn. What convinced him to join was his deal with Apple and Adidas, which helped generate more than $100 million a year. Having a stake in an MLS club is also a huge factor in bringing the Argentine to Inter Miami and is following David Beckham's footsteps. Coaching a football club doesn't seem to be Messi's plan for the future, and now, with him in the United States, owning a club seems like the only main plan for him.

Reports surrounding the MLS and in the US suggested that Messi’s deal with Inter Miami includes "an ownership stake for as much as 35% of the club – such a stake is thought to be valued at around $200 million and would be granted upon Messi’s retirement from the league." The full contract is considered valued at $125-$150 million over 2.5 years, with an option for another year. Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas has confirmed that the deal will see Messi paid between $50 and $60 million annually.

Conversely, Ronaldo has already shown his leadership skills and will to coach a football team. He first demonstrated this in 2016 when Portugal and France were playing the 2016 Euro final. Ronaldo suffered an early injury during the game, which kept him out for the rest of the game. That didn't stop the Portuguese star from being involved as he shouted instructions to the players along with his coach, Fernando Santos.
