Vinicius Jr has been involved in verbal abuse during his time in Real Madrid, as certain fans in La Liga have made racist remarks towards the player. The Brazilian was asked about his time with Real Madrid in a press conference for the Spain vs. Brazil friendly match at the Santiago Bernabeu. A sensitive topic for Vinicius came up when they discussed the racial abuse he gets from opposition fans. When the Brazilian started talking about the situation, Vinicius stared to get emotional and cried. Vinicius Jr. couldn't hold back the tears as he wanted to fight the verbal abuse he received and wanted support for himself and for others who go through racism. As many football clubs and players showed their support towards the player, a former goalkeeper did the opposite and made a controversial comment towards Vinicius Jr.

Vinicius spoke about needing support through this difficult time, as racism is not only in football but in the world. Vinicius said, "I've been watching this (racism) happen for a long time, and I feel sadder and sadder; I'm less and less willing to play. No one is supporting me."

Vinicus Jr. specified that he doesn't believe that Spain is a racist country but does believe there is a lot in the football stadiums he plays in La Liga. Vinicius said, "I'm sure Spain is not a racist country, but there are many racists, and many of them are in the stadiums. We have to change because many of them don't know what racism is. They insult me about the color of my skin to make me play badly; they can tell me many other things, and I'm not going to tell them anything. I hope I can go to the pitches and not think about what could happen."

Former Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert wrote a controversial comment in a post on X, showing Vinicius's emotional state about the abuse he has received from opposition fans.
