With the January transfer window nearing its conclusion, clubs must now start pivoting towards their summer plans. Whilst the summer is still a few months away, early planning never hurts anyone. One club that requires early planning for the summer window is Manchester United. The club is underachieving so far this season, and the upcoming summer transfer window will be quite an important window for the club.

United has several areas they need to address this summer. One that is commonly talked about is the defense, as Manchester United have been linked to a bunch of names. The club are also looking to revamp at fullback and will more than likely try to get a number six through the doors. A couple of contracts are expiring in the summer as well such as Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans, and Sofyan Amrabat is set to head back to Fiorentina when his loan expires.

Manchester United will also look to address a position they did not address enough in the summer and that is the striker position. United headed into the summer 2023 window with the plan of grabbing two strikers. They were linked with a few like Mehdi Taremi, Marcus Thuram, and Harry Kane. The club would decide on a younger option rather than those three and they went with Rasmus Hojlund. But with only one striker through the door, the job was not finished. Or so we thought, as United were unable to scrape enough funds to go for a second striker.

That mistake is now costing United currently as Hojlund is the only reliable striker at the club and there is no dependable backup. The club has Anthony Martial, but he has been injured for most of the season. As for Hojlund, real competition is needed as the forward only has seven goals this season and only two of them have come in the Premier League.

Who do Manchester United want to bring in as competition?

Manchester United have set their sights in Italy once again for the striker position. According to Sport Italia the club have entered pole position for the services of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. However, they will face competition from Bayern who have a 40 million Euros buy back clause.
