Erling Haaland is one of the best players in the world and arguably the best striker in the world. Haaland started to showcase his talents to the world of football during his time at Borussia Dortmund. Now, at Manchester City, he has gained even more popularity for performing well in the best league in Europe. Last season was his first season in the Premier League, and he made it look easy as if he had spent many years at the Man City team. While he shines for Manchester City in the Premier League, things could have been very different in Haaland's career. Haaland was actually recommended to join another club in the Premier League. The funny part about this story is that he wouldn't have to go to another city as the club that rejected him was Manchester City's rivals, Manchester United.

In an interview with Skybet, The Overlap, former Man United manager and player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that Haaland could've joined Man United before Ole took over as coach. Solskjaer said, "I had Haaland in Molde for two seasons. The summer before I got here (to Man United), I rang the club and said: 'you've got to sign this boy. He’ll be top class.' That was June, July 2018, and they said no. They had enough reports on players. Then I became the caretaker manager, and we’d sold Haaland to RB Salzburg."

Solskjaer pursued after Haaland again when he was at Salzburg, but the club said no again

Solskjaer insisted the club sign Haaland by paying the release clause he had, but Man United said no. Solskjaer said, "I tell the club straight away to buy him while he has a release clause. We knew that then, and no one else would’ve paid the money - $21m, it would’ve been a bargain. It was the club’s decision to not go for it then. We never made bids or went in for him, until after he started scoring for Salzburg. By then, everyone was there. His release clause then was still good - $61m."
