Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, assured that they are going to ask the Technical Committee of Referees for the images of the phantom goal not awarded to Lamine Yamal, in which it seems that the Real Madrid goalkeeper pulls the ball out once it had already crossed the goal line in its entirety. He also stated that depending on the conclusions they draw from their own analysis, they are considering asking for a replay of El Clasico, which could mark a before and after in the history of Spanish soccer.

In the message issued by Laporta, he made it clear that FC Barcelona has been harmed by the refereeing and the VAR. He also insinuated that the VAR criteria vary depending on the matches and teams, and assured that in addition to the disallowed goal, "there were several questionable plays". The Barça president also assured that he could take legal action and made reference to the fact that this would not be the first time a match has been replayed due to a VAR error.

"There is one that is crucial and that can lead to a change in the final result of the match. I am referring to the so-called phantom goal by Lamine (...) If, once this documentation has been analyzed, the club understands that there was an error in the assessment of the play, we will take all the necessary steps to reverse the situation, without ruling out any legal action that may be necessary. If it is confirmed that it was a legal goal, we will go further and we do not rule out asking for a replay of the match, as has happened in a European match due to a VAR error," said Joan Laporta.

The match Laporta refers to took place in Belgium in December 2023. It was a match between Anderlecht and Genk, in which the VAR made an error during a penalty kick in which the Genk goal was disallowed, when in fact the penalty kick should have been retaken for encroachment into the area. That goal meant 1-0 for Genk, who ended up losing 1-2. After analyzing the case, the Disciplinary Council of Belgian Professional Soccer ordered a replay of the match and it will be replayed on May 11.

Real Madrid very close to the title

After Real Madrid's controversial victory in El Clasico, Carlo Ancelotti's team has an 11-point lead over FC Barcelona and took an important step in the fight for the title. La Liga has six games left, so if Barça's complaint is not upheld, Madrid would only need 4 more victories to be crowned champions.
