Real Madrid has been working on renovating their stadium for the past few years, and the team had to play elsewhere during the 2020/21 season. Real Madrid was playing in the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano for that reason but returned to the Santiago Bernabeu the following season with a limited capacity. Real Madrid fans weren't as close as they normally want to be to see their team during the 2021/22 season, and then it slowly improved last season as the renovation was almost complete. This season, the full capacity seems to be back, as the fans are able to sit closer to the pitch.

The renovation has included new perks like the introduction of the retractable turf, the retractable roof, and a 360-degree video scoreboard. Real Madrid has recently announced with the NFL that the first NFL game in Spain is going to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the club is also looking to host concerts of artists like Taylor Swift and Karol G. There are rumors that a UFC fight could be hosted in the stadium soon as the current UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria mentioned of being a big Real Madrid fan and wanting to fight in Spain.

While Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu is set to host major events, the club will need to save some of that revenue to pay off the cost of the renovation. According to the Athletic, the cost of renovating the Santiago Bernabéu now stands at $1.91 billion dollars. The stadium is expected to be paid off by 2053, representing an average annual cost of $71.6 million. 70,000 fans are expected at the Santiago Bernabéu for the Spain vs Brazil friendly match.
