Real Madrid has been in a dilemma recently with their squad. After the ACL injury with Thibaut Courtois in early August, Real Madrid signed Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Kepa was looked at as the number 1 keeper for the rest of the season.

Things haven't gone to plan with Kepa and Real Madrid as question marks about his goalkeeping started to grow. Chelsea knew about these regular mistakes the keeper would make during his time at Stamford Bridge, but Kepa hoped for a better season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Kepa played 12 La Liga games and kept six clean sheets for half of those games. The issue is he conceded nine goals in those 12 games. Some of the goals have been labeled avoidable and savable. Criticism started to rise more after his mistakes against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal in Saudi Arabia.
This game left Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti no choice but to switch Kepa for Andriy Lunin. Lunin has played a couple of games this season to cover Kepa when he had an injury. Lunin played eight games in La Liga and kept four clean sheets. He conceded four goals in the league and conceded 2 in two Champions League games. Lunin also made a mistake in a game against Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 of Copa del Rey.

According to Relevo, Real Madrid’s board believes Andriy Lunin should be the starting goalkeeper over Kepa. Lunin has taken advantage of his minutes over Kepa & Carlo Ancelotti is considering keeping him as the starter for the rest of the season. Madrid also looks to let Kepa return to Chelsea and not permanently buy the Spanish keeper.
