Manchester City has one of the best squads in the world, and the team has depth, which is what many teams need. The squad was slightly reduced at the start of the season with departures like Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte, and Ilkay Gundogan. Pep Guardiola and Manchester City now count on Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Josko Gvardiol, and Jeremy Doku as their main signings to help the team. Neither of them has been delivering on the pitch as the club and Guardiola expected, but they will still be counted for the upcoming seasons. A player who has been out of the club's plans could be sole this summer after signings nearly two years ago who was brought for depth but instead is not helping them.

Manchester City seems to have lost their patience with Kalvin Phillips. The English midfielder did not get many opportunities from Pep Guardiola since he signed from Leeds United in the summer of 2022. Phillips was regarded a talented defensive midfielder and he joined the club for $54.5 million. The club and Guardiola decided to let Phillips go out on loan to West Ham United in January so he gets more playing time, but things have not been working out there as well.
Phillips has started playing more with West Ham, but his performances have not convinced Man City or West Ham. Although Phillips is not performing well with West Ham, the manager, David Moyes, showed him support and said, "Kalvin Phillips is a human being; what he needs is support and people to help him. We will support Kalvin. He's a really good player, and I believe we can still make something out of the time we've got with him here."

According to Sun Sport, Manchester City is expected to put Kalvin Phillips up for permanent transfer in the summer. Leeds United hope to re-sign Kalvin Phillips for about $37.7 million from Manchester City this summer if they secure promotion back to the Premier League.
