FC Barcelona are currently preparing for their upcoming Copa del Rey fixture against third-tier side Unionistas de Salamanca. The team morale is very low due to their performance in the 4-1 loss to Real Madrid. Barca President Joan Laporta, Xavi, and Deco were talking to the first team about their expectations for the rest of the season.

Deco has mentioned after the Clasico defeat that the club could not afford any players for the winter transfer market. The club would need to sell some valuable players in order to purchase new players for next season. The Portuguese sporting director, who signed for the next three seasons, has looked at the market for cheap alternatives. The former Blaugrana player wants to complete loan deals, similar to what they are currently doing with Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.
Deco and Barca are yet to be fully convinced to buy both Portuguese players in the summer on a permanent deal. They also have identified players that could be up for sale. Barca wants to fill the midfield position since the absence of Gavi has been evident lately. Oriol Romeu has not featured in recent games and has come off the bench with a few number of minutes. Xavi has lost trust in the Spanish midfielder and plays Sergi Roberto there now. Deco wants to add an extra midfielder to the squad to add balance in the midfield.

According to Diario AS, Deco is really interested in Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips. The midfielder is looking for a way out of Manchester, with other Premier League clubs also interested. Deco believes that Phillips will give Barcelona the balance that the team lacks, and the move will be a loan deal if it happens in January. Barca fans are unhappy with this target and prefer signings in other positions, such as defenders.
