No Messi, big problem, Inter Miami gets destroyed 4-0 against the NY Red Bulls

Inter Miami suffered a big 4-0 loss against the New York Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena. Lionel Messi wasn't available for this game due to a muscle injury. Messi's last MLS game was against Orlando City on March 2nd, and they won 5-0. Inter Miami suffered their second loss of the 2024 MLS season, and both games were without Messi. Their last loss before the New York Red Bull game was the 3-2 loss at home against CF Montreal. Inter Miami has dropped to second in the Eastern Conference due to goal difference, and Columbus Crew takes the first spot.

Inter Miami was playing in the worst conditions possible so far this MLS season, as it was pouring heavy rain in New York and New Jersey. Things got worse as the New York Red Bulls took the lead in the 3rd minute. Dante Vanzeir flicked a great pass to Lewis Morgan, who ran past Aviles and drilled a low shot past Inter Miami's keeper Carlos Dos Santos, that went into the bottom left corner.

Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba were playing in this game, and the Uruguayan generated chances for Inter Miami but struggled to find a decent shot on target. The Red Bulls look much more comfortable in these conditions. In the second half, things got worse for Inter Miami as Red Bulls scored early again. In the 51st minute, Lewis Morgan grabbed his brace. The same two players combined again as Vanzeir rolled a ball to Morgan to make it 2-0 for the home side. Morgan was an Inter Miami player before and once again did not celebrate.

Lewis Morgan completes his hat-trick against his former club

In the 66th minute, Vanzeir gets his third assist of the game as Morgan keeps the ball and gets past Gressel. He finds Vanzeir and pokes a pass back to Wikelman Carmona. He gets in the box and blasts a low shot into the net from close range to make it 3-0. Only four minutes later, Morgan grabbed his hat trick, and Vanzeir got his fourth assist of the day. The Red Bulls go on a counterattack, and Vanzeir from the right side cuts the ball across to Morgan, who taps the ball into the net from close range.

The New York Red Bulls wins 4-0 and is tied on points with Inter Miami in the Eastern Conference with 10. Inter Miami's next MLS game is against New York City FC at the Chase Stadium.
