Lionel Messi continues to be influential for his teams at the club and international levels. Inter Miami has been doing great so far in the 2024 MLS season, with Messi being important with goal contributions. After the 2022 World Cup win in Qatar, Argentina will try to prepare and defend their Copa America title this summer in the United States. While the preparation for that tournament is currently going on for Messi in Argentina friendlies and MLS games with Inter Miami, the Argentine gives both teams bad news.

Messi played with Inter Miami with no issues until the 2-2 draw against Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. He felt pain in his hamstring early in the game and even received a kick late in the game. After that draw, Inter Miami played against Montreal CF in the MLS and lost 3-2 at home without Messi. Messi then played against Nashville SC again in the second leg, but he did not last long. He was subbed off the game early in the second half, and concerns started to rise. Those concerns became a reality as Messi did not play a single minute in Inter Miami's last MLS game against DC United.

After the game, Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino was asked about Messi's health and injury update; Martino said, "Messi suffers from a muscle injury, and the issue of him joining the national team must be answered by those in the national team." The international break will see Argentina play friendlies in preparation for the Copa America, but many sources report that Messi is unlikely to play in those games.

Messi is likely to miss the Argentina friendlies next week

Argentina will play El Salvador next Friday and then Costa Rica on March 26th. TYC Sports reporter Gaston Edul reports that Leo Messi does not get to participate in Argentina's friendlies due to recovery times from the muscle injury. They have to define whether he is disaffected by the tour or not, but he will still not be able to participate.
