Diario AS reports that Manchester City wants to appoint Xabi Alonso next year if Pep Guardiola leaves the club and doesn't renew his contract. If Alonso were to join the current Premier League champions, the Spanish manager would bring Florian Wirtz, Alejandro Grimaldo, and Jeremie Frimpong. Manchester City has shown lots of interest in these three players, and all of them are fundamental to Alonso's system at Bayer Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso rejected a move to Liverpool and Bayern Munich at the end of the season as the two clubs wanted their former player to coach their teams. The Spanish manager decided to stay at Leverkusen to win the Bundesliga and make more history next season. While Man City has now shown interest in appointing Alonso, Real Madrid is also interested in bringing the Spanish manager in. Real Madrid's advantage over Man City is that Madrid was Alonso's former club.

Bayer Leverkusen's CEO Fernando Carro even hinted that Alonso's future could be at Real Madrid or with his other former clubs, Liverpool or Bayern Munich. Carro said, "Many clubs want Xabi Alonso, maybe one day he can work for one of them, especially those where he used to play… but he’s happy here now, that’s why he’s staying. Release clause? It’s a confidential matter between us."

Xabi Alonso's reaction to the Manchester City vs Real Madrid game in the Champions League

While Alonso is currently attracting interest from Man City and Real Madrid, the Spanish coach talked about the Champions League game between the two teams this week. Alonso said, "Yeah, of course, I saw it. I love football, and you love watching the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League.
